EUROPEAN VOCATIONAL SKILLS WEEK 2020

This year the fifth edition of the Week took place in a 100% digital format between 9th and 13th November. The event was organized by the European Commission in cooperation with the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The initiative provoked more than 1000 activities and events, organized by 38 partner states and involved over 3,6 million participants.

The Vocational School of Computer Programming and Innovations, Burgas, took part in this year’s edition of the Week.

The school’s team organized an online event “IT specialists’ skills for the 21st century”. Students from the 8th, 9th and 10th grade attended the activity. The event was chaired by Ms Dimitrina Todorova, head of the school. Among the other presenters were:

· Ms Danaila Stamatova – deputy head teacher;

· Mr Petar Georgiev – mentor;

· Mr Victor Stoev – 9th grade ITC teacher;

· Ms Mila Nikolova – 8th grade ITC teacher.

The organisers presented their visions and ambitions for the professional development of the school’s students, emphasizing the importance of the connection between education and business, the cooperation between the school and the big IT companies in Bulgaria.

The main focus of the presentation was to demonstrate to the students the essential competences and skills for success in the 21st century.

· Life-long learning skills: Critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, communication.

· Emotional intelligence and functional literacy: social skills and ability to manage the information overload, innovative thinking.

· Life skills: flexibility, interaction and communication, proactivity, productivity, etc.

The students asked questions related to their career path and professional development. They also shared their experience, visions and concepts for innovations in education.
